Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, the Canadian-American musician and singer. She's released over 20 albums. Her songs are classified as folk and alternative rock. However, they also have influences of jazz hip-hop punk and rock and roll. She is widely considered to be a feminist icon. Grammy winner Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement, and was among the first musicians to launch her own label 1990. DiFranco was born on the 23rd September 1970 in New York City, York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who came across Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father is of Italian descent, and her mother hails from Montreal. Ani diFranco composed and performed the song 32 Flavors. The song is featured on her upcoming album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. The song is featured on the film's soundtrack the Canadian romantic drama Better Than Chocolate from 1999. DiFranco has since apologized after it became known that she had planned to hold 3 days of a workshop at a Louisiana ex-slave plantation. It was canceled, however, she did not express any regret. DiFranco released a new apology several days afterward. Her name is associated with her Little Folksinger, but she has worked with a variety of artists and styles that range from Pete Seeger to Chuck D. She resides in New Orleans. Ani DiFranco is married to Kristen Ford. By 14 she was making her own songs. The songs were performed in caf s and bars through her teens. DiFranco began taking lessons at Buffalo State College at age 16, after she graduated from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. The baritone of Ani is a custom Alvarez guitar made in conjunction with Chrys who was an Alvarez representative for artists during the time. The guitar is equipped with their System 600 preamp and has all solid woods--a cedar top mahogany back and sides and an Ebony fretboard.
